One of the accomplishments of APP's Forest Conservation Policy is the constructive engagement of customary and local communities in an attempt to resolve social conflicts as well as the socio-economic development communities living near the forest. The community has to be actively involved in sustainable and responsible. With this backdrop in mind, APP embraced the customary and local communities to attain these goals.
At the end of 2015, APP introduced Desa Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) also known as Integrated Forestry & Farming System (IFFS), which is an improved program streaming from previous community development programs. Through IFFS, APP hopes that villages and communities can play an important role in sustainable forest management, accompanied by the achievement of common prospeity.
The IFFS program is founded on the collaborative principle involving the active participation and coordination among all stakeholders:villagers, village administrations, partnering village institutions, non-governmental organizations, academics and of course, APP and its suppliers managing local concession areas. In order to realize the commitments of APP's Forest Conservation Policy and the complexity of conditions and issues unique to the target village, the program is upheld with a six-pillared structure.
Above all, the six pillars of the IFFS program are designed to accommodate the contemporary conditions and context unique to the target village as they are applied in progressive stages.

Dimulai tahun 2015, APP Sinar Mas meluncurkan program Desa Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA), sesuai dengan konsep sistem kehutanan dan pertanian terpadu sebagai sarana untuk mengatasi masalah kebakaran hutan dan lahan. Program ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi tekanan terhadap lahan hutan melalui penyediaan mata pencaharian alternatif bagi masyarakat yang tinggal di dalam dan sekitar kawasan hutan. Program ini mengambil pendekatan partisipatif dan mendorong rasa memiliki pada masyarakat, serta meningkatkan kapasitas lembaga milik desa untuk menjamin keberlanjutan program.
Dengan menargetkan 500 desa bergabung dengan DMPA, hingga akhir 2021, 394 desa telah bergabung ke dalam program ini, terdiri lebih dari 31,600 rumah tangga.
Meski di tengah pandemi, sejumlah besar peserta berhasil mempertahankan usaha dan pendapatannya, seperti budidaya madu, minuman jamu, buah-buahan dan sayur-sayuran, dan lain sebagainya. Untuk lebih mendukung peserta selama masa pandemi, program ini menyediakan webinar rutin dengan bekerja sama dengan mitra, di mana peserta belajar menggunakan pasar digital untuk memperluas akses ke pasar, serta mengembangkan dan berinovasi produk. Kami juga memperhatikan pengembangan desa ekowisata yang mendukung pembangunan ekonomi dan konservasi. Kegiatan ini terutama difokuskan pada pengembangan kapasitas dan pelatihan, dengan banyak desa yang telah menerima dukungan dari pemerintah daerah dan pemangku kepentingan setempat.
